This rigorous tour laps Chehalem Ridge, the broad mountain rising southwest of Hillsboro. It’s another test piece for local cyclists, with sustained climbing, white-knuckle downhills, and views from the Coast Range to the Cascades. This version begins in Newberg and loops the broad ridge clockwise, following the Tualatin River through Gaston, Cornelius, and Hillsboro before attacking the ridge itself. I prefer this route, but you could just as easily begin in Hillsboro—convenient if you’re riding MAX.
