The Westside Regional Trail runs north and south, following a powerline easement the length of Beaverton. As powerlines are wont to do, the path charges up and over hills with little regard for topography. The result is a roller-coaster ride with dramatic views and thigh-burning, but relatively short, climbs. The trail is a few notches tougher than the Fanno or Rock Creek Greenways, and like those paths it also suffers from some gaps. But even as a work in progress, it’s a great ride. Begin at the Howard M. Terpenning Recreation Complex, a sprawling temple to fitness. Beaverton is a sporty town. Nike’s world headquarters is around the corner, after all.
