This ride and the next explore lower suburban tributaries of the Tualatin River via greenway paths. Both rides offer car-free riding through parks and natural areas. In both cases, too, you have to deal with frustrating gaps in the greenways, the legacy of piecemeal and (until recently) uncoordinated growth. Even with gaps, these greenways are vital components of the region’s alternative transportation infrastructure. This ride tours the Rock Creek Greenway at the northern edge of Beaverton, in the fast-growing community of Bethany. Begin at Rock Creek Powerline Park, just off NW Cornelius Pass Road. From the parking area, the path shoots straight east, past soccer fields and a golf course. Across NW Neahkahnie Avenue, it continues past Bethany Lake to end at NW 185th Avenue. Go left onto the sidewalk here and cross 185th at the stoplight. Continue a short distance in the bike lane on NW West Union Road, then cross West Union at the crosswalk to continue on the path.
