This easy road loop around the southern end of Sauvie Island—the largest river island in the United States—is another classic Portland ride, loved by casual riders and weekend warriors alike. The roads lack shoulders, but traffic is low and people around here are used to cyclists. The only time likely to be busy—also the best time to visit—is autumn, when people flock to the island for hay rides, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, and Halloween fun. Sauvie Island is a special place, a world apart despite its proximity to Portland.
