NE 82nd Avenue, aka the Avenue of the Roses, might seem like a strange choice for a bike tour. True, the old thoroughfare is famous for its used-car dealerships, prostitution, and “adventurous” pedestrian and bike conditions. But look past the broken glass and skinny sidewalks, and you’ll ?nd incredible cultural diversity, unmatched anywhere in Oregon. Since 82nd Avenue is no place to ride a bike, the route instead parallels the old thoroughfare through some of East Portland’s under-appreciated neighborhoods. It crosses 82nd several times at intersections strategically located near several of the street’s many excellent Vietnamese restaurants.
