Parque Nacional del Este and Saono Island

20 miles south of Punta Cana lie the national park, Parque Nacional del Este, and the Saono Island. Visitors to both have the opportunity to observe 112 bird species that flock to the park to nest.
The waters in the immediate area offer some of the Dominican's best scuba diving and snorkeling. Hundreds of fish fill the rich coral reefs and divers have the chance of spotting manatees and dolphins. Various organized tour outfitters take visitors from Punta Cana to the park and island.
