Things to Do in Queenstown, New Zealand
Queenstown, New Zealand, located at the southern end of New Zealand's South Island, is an excellent getaway for outdoor enthusiasts. Close to Fjordland National Park, this community is close to many outdoor attractions, including fishing, jet boat tours, hiking, camping and water sports on Lake Wakatipu.

Skiing The Remarkables

Easily reached by motorcoach from the downtown Queensland Snow Center, The Remarkables are a series of mountains that form a bowl that is perfect for skiing. Part of the reason the Queensland Snow Center exists is due to the New Zealand commitment to sustainability, so other ride share systems, recycling and other such programs are in place to make sure that New Zealand stays snowy for a long time to come.

The Remarkables offer several terrain parks for snowboarders, including the first Stash park, designed by Burton. The slopes are serviced by three high-speed quad chairlifts and offer extensive advanced ski slopes, as well as lots of opportunities for beginners and intermediate skiers.

Shotover Jet Boats

Based on a technology developed in New Zealand, a high speed jet boat tour is a highlight for many visitors to the South Island. Using a water jet instead of a propeller, a jet boat is uniquely designed to function in the shallow fjords of the area. The boats can turn on a dime and reach speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. A tour of the picturesque canyon, at a reasonable speed, is also included, and your pilot will tell you about the areas natural formations as well as local Maori myths. Life jackets are provided, but a waterproof jacket is recommended.

Spend some time on a kayak on the pristine lake, or book an add on visit to the Milford Discovery Center Underwater Observatory, where you can get a glimpse of the lake's aquatic life.
