Camping at Smith Mountain Lake, VA

Camping at Smith Mountain Lake, VA
With 500 miles of coastline, Smith Mountain Lake is one of Virginia's most popular outdoor recreation destinations and the second largest freshwater lake in the state. Peak season runs from June to August and there's a distinctive mid-season, which spans 4 to 6 weeks before and after the peak. From mid October to mid April, visitors enjoy a much less crowded lake, with plenty of hillsides for snowshoe hiking and a chance to get to know the locals, through regular cornhole tournaments and charity games.

Blue Ridge Campground

Situated offshore, the Blue Ridge campground is in a secluded forest area with a volleyball court, a playground for children, horseshoe courts and easy access to area hiking trails. A winding footpath leads down to the lake where visitors can go fishing. After a rough day on the lake or in the mountains, they offer a bathhouse with hot showers and flushing toilets. RV spaces are available with full hookups and dump stations. They also have a laundry room and ice machines as well as an LP gas filling station.
