West Virginia's New River Gorge area offers picturesque views while casting a line for fiesty, smallmouth bass. Tour guides chart a course for the best local "fishing holes" while providing hints and tips to novice anglers. A three-day tourist-fishing license is available for purchase from trip guides, or through the National Park Service office.

Mountain State Anglers

Mountain State Anglers Fishing Services offers excursions on the New River Gorge National River. Participants should expect to catch smallmouth bass, channel catfish and wild mountain trout. The trained guides also offer assistance in learning how to fly fish. Anglers can select a half- or full-day guided fishing tour. Alcohol is not permitted on the boat, anglers must be at least 6 years old to spin or fly fish on the boat.

New River Gorge Tours

Guided fishing tours at the New River Gorger include multiple access points at the New River Gorge National River. Anglers can tour the Tug Creek Beach, Grandview Sandbar, Brooks Falls, Mill Creek, Glade Creek, McCreery, Sandstone Falls and Hellems Beach areas. Fish routinely harvested from the New River Gorge and surrounding waterways include largemouth bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, carp, muskellunge, rock bass and channel catfish. Several designated catch-and-release areas are present within the New River Gorge National Park. Both half- and full-day excursions are offered.

River Expeditions

The River Expeditions Tour Company offers guided fishing, whitewater rafting, rock climbing and mountain biking tours. Anglers spend a full day on the water of the New River casting for smallmouth bass, catfish, carp and walleye. Trained guides offer advice on fishing techniques and line maintenance, as well as share the natural history of the river. A minimum of two anglers is required per expedition.
