For those wishing to visit Mexico in a more natural setting, Huatulco is the perfect destination. Bahias de Huatulco is the largest ecological reserve in the country. It's made up of 18 miles of Mexican coastline and nine bays. For the eco-traveler this area is the ideal place to spend your time in Huatulco, and there's so much to see that you could never get bored.

San Agustin Bay

San Agustin Bay is one of the nine bays that make up Bahias de Huatulco. It's a great way to get a true taste of the physical beauty of the area. San Agustin is a rustic, picturesque fishing village tucked into the coast with wonderful neighborhood restaurants. It's the perfect place to stop after a hike along the cliffs. The village is so rustic that none of the houses or restaurants have any electricity or plans to install it. The best way to get there is by boat. Purchase a ticket for a catamaran. The views are gorgeous. Once you arrive, you may want to spend time snorkeling.

Coffee Plantation Tours

One way to truly absorb the culture of the area is to take a day tour to one of the coffee plantations. The tours take you deep into the mountains around Huatulco. The tour teaches you firsthand about the cultivation of coffee and what life is like on a Mexican coffee plantation. The tour will take you through the process of making the coffee and at the end you get to savor the delicious beverage.

River Rafting on the Copalita River

If you're up for an adventure, consider a river rafting tour of the Copalita River. The river runs deep into the jungle, giving you an opportunity to check out the ample flora and fauna unique to the area. Make sure to wear your bathing suit, because you'll get an opportunity to jump into the river for a swim.
