What Landmarks Are in the Area of Florida Memorial University?
Florida Memorial University is located in Miami Gardens, Florida. The city is equidistant from Fort Lauderdale and Miami, Florida, putting visitors within 15 miles of many of the attractions that each city has to offer. In addition, Miami Gardens itself is the hub for a number of outdoor recreation opportunities and sporting venues.

According to the university's history, the campus is home to the only historically black college or university in Miami, Florida. The university is one of the oldest centers of academia in Florida history. Visitors are welcome and host-led campus tours are available.

Land Shark Stadium

The stadium supports the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami football team, along with the Florida Marlins baseball team. Land Shark has been the site of the FedEx Orange Bowl, several NFL Super Bowl games and two MLB World Series.

Calder Race Course

Calder offers thoroughbred horse racing. Live racing takes place from April through January, and simulcast racing can be seen from around the world and locations across the United States throughout the year. Wager on races, visit the casino (open in 2010) or play a tournament at the poker club.

Oleta River State Park

Kayak, bike, swim, fish or picnic on the grounds. The park has mountain bike trails and opportunities for bird and wildlife watching. Enjoy the local flora and fauna or tour the butterfly garden.

The Blue Moon Outdoor Center offers equipment rentals, a gift shop and restaurant. Cabin rentals are also available. Located just off I-95 in Miami, the park is open every day of the year from 8 a.m. until sundown and requires only a small admission fee.

John U. Lloyd Beach State Park Recreation Area

Located on the ocean, Lloyd State Park offers boating, ocean snorkeling and scuba diving and swimming. The park includes 251 acres of barrier island. Walk nature trails, fish or watch ships as they navigate Port Everglades. Picnic areas, canoe rentals and refreshments are available on site.

The park is a sea turtle nesting area, with wildlife and bird-watching opportunities. The land contains mangrove, wetlands and seaside hardwood forest areas.

Grand Palms Hotel-Spa and Golf Resort
