Things to Do in Los Angeles With Kids

Things to Do in Los Angeles With Kids
Los Angeles is by no means the most kid-friendly city in the world. Some parts of the city are even down-right dangerous. Despite all this, LA does still offer quite a few top-rate attractions to entertain kids and adults at the same time. Whether you're a local or a tourist, you're sure to have a great time out with the kids as long as you know where to go.

Santa Monica Pier

The Santa Monica Pier provides the best of the surf, sun and culture of Los Angeles. This famous pier has been seen in many movies, including "Forest Gump," "The Sting" and "Ruthless People."
Kids will love getting to ride the ferris wheel, enjoy fried food and go swimming in the waves below. Parents will love having so many ways to keep the children entertained while getting to spend a relaxing day at the beach.

Angeles National Forest

If your child loves to camp, consider a trip to the Angeles National Forest. This massive national park is filled with arid deserts and forested mountains. Guests are invited to try all types of recreational activities, including hiking, cycling, canoeing, swimming, fishing and even skiing in the winter.
If you choose to take a camping trip in the summer though, leave the marshmallows at home--there are no fires permitted during the hot summer months due to wildfire risks.

Kids everywhere love theme parks, and Universal Studios takes all the fun of theme parks and mixes it with a bit of movie magic. The result is fun rides, a behind-the-scene look at real Hollywood movie studios and stage shows incorporating the real stage effects used in movies. Don't miss the classic tram ride, Jurassic Park The Ride and Shrek 4D. Kids of all ages--including you--will enjoy these attractions.

Beach Biking

If your child is a cycling fan, take him on one of the best bike trails in LA. The bike path along the beach provides a chance to take in the scenery of the water while enjoying the cool breezes as you exercise. Start at Marina Del Rey and head south to Manhattan Beach, and you'll enjoy one of the nicest beach rides around.

Griffith Park is known for hosting the "Hollywood" sign, but it offers visitors so much more than that. The Griffith Observatory is open to the public throughout the year, and kids will enjoy the planetarium as well as a chance to take a look at the stars with a high-powered telescope. The Los Angeles Zoo is also inside the boundaries of Griffith Park, offering kids and adults a chance to see species from throughout the world.
Outside there are ample sports fields, picnic grounds and hiking trails to suit everyone's fancy. Kids are bound to enjoy Griffith Park--and their parents are too.
