Attractions for Kids in New York City
Visiting New York with children is an adventure for even the most rugged parents. The Big Apple is packed with active things for kids to do year round. From the waterways of the Hudson River to the wilds of Central Park, many families are surprised by the variety of recreational activities that NYC has to offer.

Urban Kayaking

If you forgot to pack your kayak, get in touch with The New York City Downtown Boathouse. It has three Hudson River locations: Pier 40 at Houston Street, 72nd Street in Riverside Park and Pier 96 at 56th Street. It's one of the few New York kayaking companies that welcome children on tours. It also happens to be completely free and run by volunteers. The company's mission is that everyone has access to New York's beautiful waterways.

Sailing Program for Kids

Since 2005, the Atlantic Yachting Company has been teaching two-week sailing courses for children age 9-15 during the warmer months. The program was chosen by the Daily News as one of the top 100 things to do in the summer. Children learn teamwork, communication and knot tying. As important members of the crew, they gain confidence and enjoy the Hudson river and surrounding waterways. If it rains, they head to the Museum of Natural history to learn about the history of sailing. The boats are modern, clean and well-maintained, and safety is a top priority.
