Some of the most popular activities for kids in Pataskala happen at the library, the cities parks and at a local farm. Pataskala, Ohio, is a small town in central Ohio, about 15 miles east of Columbus, and halfway to Newark. With a historic downtown and quiet country surroundings threaded with new homes and businesses, the Pataskala area offers many activities for locals and for visitors to the area.

Pataskala Public Library

With over 70,000 books, as well as audio and video selections, the Pataskala Public Library provides many kid-centered activities. To help children help others in need, the library schedules "Food for Fines," to encourage donations of canned or non-perishable dry food. The library also holds a book and bake sale fundraiser. Story times appeal to kids of all ages. Babies to two-year-olds can attend the Wee Read Baby Lapsit Story Time. Toddler Story Time is held twice a week, while Preschool Story Time and Family Story Time are weekly events. All the story times include music and crafts. For older kids there are scheduled author visits to inspire young writers.

Pataskala Parks and Recreation Department

The Pataskala Parks and Recreation Department maintains the areas six parks. The parks include the Thomas J. Evans Foundation Park, Municipal Park, William V. Karr Park, Freedom Park, Liberty Park and Citizens Park. While all the parks are popular and busy, the Thomas J. Evans Foundation Park is the largest at almost 80 acres, with one fourth of it being woods. This park contains facilities for baseball, soccer, basketball and volleyball. Two playgrounds have swings, slides and other equipment for playing on. A park highlight is the Winter Fireworks event. During September, the Antique Power Show hosts a kiddie tractor pull.

Bookmark Farms Horseback Riding

Bookmark Farms schedules horseback riding for kids of all ages and skill levels. The lessons are for individual children or groups, and can include parent and child riding camps. During summer and Christmas breaks, kids have opportunities to learn riding and horse care. Kids can play horse-related games or create different types of craft projects. Pony rides are available for birthday parties. The barn management training program prepares older kids for the responsibilities surrounding complete care of the horses. Saturday camps and group rides give kids a chance to meet and make friends with other kids as well as the ponies and horses.
