Kayak Fishing in Hawaii

Kayak Fishing in Hawaii
A trip to Hawaii is typically filled with days spent soaking in the tropical sun on the hundreds of miles of beaches. Hawaii is also a popular sport fishing destination, with species such as akule, opelu, ta'ape, snapper, moana, weke, ulua, menpachi and bonefish being plentiful in the Hawaiian waters. Kayak fishing has gained in popularity in the last several years. When you are ready to try fishing for deep sea, or "pelagics," in Hawaii, there are kayak companies and locals ready to assist with the trips.

Hui Wa'a Kaukahi Kayak Club

The Hui Wa'a Kaukini Kayak Club is on the Island of Oahu and serves as a social and outing club for locals and visitors. There are organized kayak-fishing tours that take place routinely. If you are visiting Oahu, check online for current schedules of kayak-fish trips. According to the webmaster of the Hui Ka'a Kaukini Kayak Club, visitors are encouraged to join scheduled trips but will be asked to sign a release form before going on club tours. You can learn the techniques used by the local kayakers to land deep sea fish from kayaks without flipping or getting into danger. There are kayak rental companies available on Oahu. Bring sunscreen, a wide brimmed-sun hat and a camera.
