Dunedin, Florida is located about 3 miles north from the city of Clearwater and 25 miles west of Tampa. With its Scottish roots---this quaint seaside city offers many things to do including camping. Dunedin is home to Caladesi Island, Honeymoon Island and the barrier Islands---offering stunning and captivating views of the Gulf of Mexico. Camping in this coastal area of west central Florida offers a chance to get out and explore marine life and seaside treasures.

Anclote Key Preserve State Park

The Anclote Key Preserve State Park is a 403-acre park located on the Anclote Key and is only accessible by boat or ferry. This park lies roughly three miles west of Dunedin near the city of Tarpon Springs. A tropical oasis that is left untouched by the modern world, guests flock to this state park to observe the natural setting. Camp sites are primitive--there is no running water or electricity on the island. Camping on the beach is a popular choice. Look for more than 43 species of native and rare birds such as the bald eagle and piping plover. Unmarked trails will take you to the historical 1887 lighthouse that is the main sightseeing attraction of the key. Admission to the park and camping are free, but you still must check in at the main registration office. If you choose not to use your own marine transportation you can access the key daily by using Sun Line Charters at 717-944-4468 or Sponge-O-Rama at 727-943-2164.

Caladesi RV Park

The Caladesi RV Park is located between the city of Palm Harbor and Caladesi and is close to area attractions such as Honeymoon State Park and Caladesi Island State Park. The park is partially wooded with paved roads and driveways. Caladesi RV Park has pull through and primitive sites for those with a variety of camping styles and tastes. The campground is adjacent to the Pinellas Trail. This 37-mile nature trail winds along the Gulf Coast. Some of the amenities at this park include a heated swimming pool, camp store and laundry and bath facilities. Many campers participate in regular holiday and monthly pot lucks and social events for the entire family.

Dunedin RV Resort

The Dunedin RV Resort is both a campground and a mobile home resort. They offer primitive camping for those who prefer a rustic experience. This resort is conveniently located just a few blocks from the Gulf. Set in a wooded area, this campground offers great wildlife viewing features.The osprey is just one of many Florida native birds that make this area its nesting ground. Because this campground is also a RV resort---there are several added amenities to choose from such as a recreation hall, playground, heated swimming pool, laundry and beach shop.
