Fishing Events in New York
There are more than 200 lakes located in and around the state of New York. Almost everyone knows the Great Lakes, but there are a number of other lakes that people may not know by name but still offer great fishing and host fishing events. There are fishing tournaments on Lake George and Lake Champion. Educational fishing at Green Lakes or lots of other activities and events are held at Grafton Lake. It doesn't matter what part of New York, there is a lake and event for anglers and their family to enjoy.

Junior Carp Fishing Tournament

The Junior Carp Fishing Tournament is held at Perinton Park in Fairport. There are two age groups in this tournament; 10- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 18-year-olds. There are first, second and third place cash prizes for both age groups. There will also be educational programs available during the tournament for children. The tournament is held the last Saturday in July.

Lake Ontario Pro-Am

The Lake Ontario Pro-Am Salmon and Trout Team Tournament are held in Niagra, Oswego, Orleans and Wayne Counties in New York. The tournament features several smaller contests, including most consistent fisherman. There are two divisional races that lead to the Challenge Cup. The divisions are East and West for the four counties of Lake Ontario. The winner from each division competes to be the overall winner. The tournament features a point scoring system and while it's meant for the most experienced angler, there are challenges for amateur and experienced teams. The teams consist of four people that receive points for each fish and the weight of each fish caught.

Oneida Lake Open

The Oneida Lake Open is a bass fishing tournament for amateurs and professionals alike. The tournament features different divisions for each experience level. The Oneida Lake Open operates on a point scoring with points awarded for the number of fish and the length and weight of the fish. The program that sponsors the tournament is the Keep the Boat Afloat Rod and Reel Club and the focus is to educate people in the art of bass fishing.
