Campgrounds With Fishing Near Anchorage, Alaska
Camping throughout Alaska is a great way to experience the state and get closer to nature. Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, is a thriving urban area surrounded by dramatic mountains and bodies of water. If you're a fisherman who wants to camp while you're here, there are several campgrounds ideal for you near Anchorage.
 

Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park

Perhaps some people in your party want to spend all of their time hiking and fishing, while the others want to explore the city of Anchorage. If you want the best of both worlds, stay at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park, located beside a stream and just a few blocks from downtown. The campground has full hookup sites for RVs with water, sewer and electric service, as well as tent sites without hookups. Wi-Fi access is available throughout the park. There are laundry facilities on site, as well as showers, restrooms and a gift shop. The Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park is open May 1 through September 30.

Eagle River Campground

Just 12 miles north of Anchorage is the small town of Eagle River, and the campground there is perfect for fisherman who want to be close to the water. Eagle River Campground has 57 sites that accommodate tents and RVs of any size, and each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. There are hiking trails nearby, but bring along your pole if you want to get in some great salmon fishing on the Eagle River. This campground is the only one in the state park system that takes reservations, so call early to book your stay.

Bird Creek Campground

Located within the half million acres of Chugach State Park you'll find Bird Creek Campground about 20 minutes southeast of Anchorage. This small campground has just 28 sites, but they all include picnic tables and fire pits. Bird Creek is a short walk from the campground and features good salmon fishing. There's also a paved coastal trail that passes through the campground and is perfect for jogging, hiking or biking. Be sure to follow all recommended protocols, as this venue is located in bear country and there have been incidents with bears in this campground before.
