Kayak Gifts

Kayak Gifts
Kayaking is a sport that can easily become a way of life. If you want a kayak-related gift for that special kayaker in your life, you are in luck; a wide variety of those gifts exist. Gifts range from the practical to the whimsical, with useful and informative in between.

Any equipment that goes with the kayak makes a good gift, as long as it's not something the paddler already has. Ideas include a spray skirt, a collapsible spare paddle or a new paddle that fits the paddler's specifications. A brand new bilge pump might be appreciated, too. Kayak car racks or shoulder carriers are useful and practical. Navigational tools like a GPS or compass are also useful, as are multipurpose tools and weather radios. If you have the money and the recipient needs one, you might even want to consider a new kayak.

Personal Items

Many kayakers appreciate a few more personal kayaking essentials. Such gift items might include a quality pair of sunglasses complete with a floating cord, a sun hat, toasty fleece hat or weatherproof watch.

Water bottles and holders or other hydration systems are useful, and kayak clothing never goes out of style for the avid paddler. Consider a paddling jacket or shorts; wetsuit jackets, pants or shorts; or a set of long underwear or other insulating undergarments. Insulated or wetsuit gloves are useful, as are wool or fleece sweaters.

Art and Literature

For the art lover or avid reader, there is a host of kayaking art and literature on the market. Art includes prints, original paintings, posters and wall calendars with kayaking themes. Kayaking books, which may be instructional, adventure guides or stories about other kayakers, are ideal. A magazine subscription to one of the several kayaking magazines is another useful idea that will give the recipient something to look forward to all year.

If you'd rather go for a gift that's all in fun, there are a wide array of novelty gifts ideal for kayakers. These include kayak charms, pendants or other jewelry, license plates, knickknacks and figurines. Humorous T-shirts, stickers or signs, which you can find at specialty shops or have custom printed, are another fun idea. Sayings can include, "I'd rather be kayaking," "Born to paddle," "I kayak to get away from people," or something you create on your own. Kayaking magnets, key chains and even a wine bottle cork depicting a car carrying a kayak on top are other fun finds.
