Askov is a small town located on the central east border of Minnesota in Pine County. Situated near the Kettle River, the area offers whitewater enthusiasts an opportunity to canoe or kayak the area's many rapids. The city is close to several state parks and wildlife areas, offering opportunities for fishing, boating, hiking and cross-country skiing. Campers will be delighted in their many choices of wooded and secluded campsites.

Countryside Campground

Located in Askov is the Countryside Campground. The heavily forested campground offers tent campers 47 primitive sites equipped with a fire ring and picnic table that are situated away from RVs. There are 146 full hook-up sites and 36 campsites with electric and water. All sites are large and wooded. The campground offers seasonal and overnight sites, with pets accepted. There is an activity room, laundry facility, indoor pool, bathrooms, showers and a camping store. Whitewater enthusiasts are approximately 1 mile from the Kettle River, offering various locations to enjoy the wild waters. Banning State Park is approximately 2 miles away, offering more opportunities to enjoy boating, fishing and hiking.

Banning State Park

Banning State Park is approximately 3 miles north of Askov on the Kettle River. This heavily forested park offers campers large, private and secluded campsites, with 33 drive-in sites. Eleven campsites have electric and water, with one backpacking site near the Kettle River. Canoeists have four canoe sites that are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The park has restrooms, showers and vault toilets throughout, as well as a boat ramp. Whitewater enthusiasts will enjoy canoeing or kayaking through the rapids of Blueberry Slide and Hell's Gate. Hikers will enjoy the 17 miles of trail, with some leading to Wolf Creek Falls and the Robinson Ice Cave. The park also has 11 miles of cross-country skiing trails. Anglers can fish in the Kettle River.

Wilderness Campground

Located in Willow River, approximately 10 miles from Askov, is the Wilderness Campground. Located in the Kettle River Wild & Scenic River District on 100 forested acres, the campground offers an abundance of primitive tent sites situated away from RVs. All sites are large, private and shady, with 29 campsites offering water and electric. There are three DNR canoe campsites on the Kettle River close to the campground. Some of the tent sites are located along the Kettle River and Long Lake. The campground has restrooms, showers, a boat ramp and canoe rentals. It offers miles of hiking, with the Willard Munger State Trail crossing through the park. Anglers can fish in one of the campground's three lakes or on the river. The campground is approximately 8 miles from Banning State Park.
