Alexandria is the seat of Douglas County and home to a variety of outdoor activities. The area combines lakes, wooded hills and open prairie. During the winter, skiing, snowboarding and ice skating are popular activities. In summer, Minnesota's vast chain of lakes offers boating, fishing and swimming. There also are hiking trails to explore.

Lakes Area RV Park

Lakes Area RV Park has 40 sites with full hookups and fire rings. Pets are permitted at no charge. The park has a laundry area, pond, playground and volleyball court. Travel 10 miles north from the park and you will find Lake Carlos State Park. In the winter, visitors can cross-country ski and snowshoe in the park. There are a number of habitats on the grounds and guests can explore them by hiking. Lake Carlos has swimming and boating.

Cottage Grove Resort

Cottage Grove Resort has cabins and RV campsites with Wi-Fi available. Groceries and refreshments are sold on-site. Pets are welcome, with some breed restrictions. The resort offers horseshoes, a playground and a sandy beach for swimming. Located on the shore of Lake Andrew, the resort is a popular option for recreational boaters. The resort operates a boat-rental and boat-lift service for an additional fee. Lakes within a 10-mile radius of the resort include Lake Mary, Lake Osakis and Lake Reno.

Lazy Days Campground

Lazy Days offers travelers a 35-acre facility with 99 open, grassy sites. Every site includes full hookups, but only 10 pull-thru spots are available. The campground offers free Wi-Fi, a heated pool and outdoor games. This is a popular site if you or your family members enjoy BMX bike riding. The campground has a BMX track suitable for all ages. Lazy Days is open from May 1 through October 1, as of February 2010, and services are limited near the end of September. Lake Carlos State Park is 11 miles south. The Central Lakes Bike Trail is accessible in Alexandria. The wide, paved trail stretches 55 miles across parts of Minnesota. The trail is open to bike riders, in-line skaters, walkers and runners.
