Lanesboro is a scenic town located within Fillmore County on the southeast corner of Minnesota by the Iowa state line. The Root River flows through the area, offering prime opportunities for canoeing, swimming, boating and fishing. The city operates several parks for visitors to enjoy various outdoor activities. Hikers and bikers have several trails in which to explore the area's natural environment. Campers have many choices in wooded and private campsites.

Eaglecliff Campground

Three miles east of Lanesboro in a country setting along the banks of the Root River is the Eaglecliff Campground. Tent campers have 64 campsites, with some located along the riverbanks, that have a fire ring and picnic table. These sites are away from RV campsites. The 157 sites include water, electric and sewer. The campground also offers group camping facilities. Restrooms, showers, a dump station and picnic area are included. Water enthusiasts can rent kayaks or canoes for exploring the Root River, one of the best canoe routes in the state. Anglers and boaters can utilize the park's boat ramp for bass and trout fishing in the river.

Highway 250 Campground

Located on Highway 250 and approximately one-half mile outside of the Lanesboro city limits is Eagle Cliff Campground. The campground is located on the Root River and guests are within walking distance to Lanesboro. The 98 campsites set aside for tent campers have water, a picnic table and fire ring. Some sites are located along the riverbanks and are large, shady and private. RV campers have 62 sites with water, sewer and electric. Tubing and canoe rentals are available at the campground for those wishing to experience the Root River. Anglers can fish from the banks of the river for various species of trout and bass, as well as crappie. The campground is approximately one-half mile from the Root River Bike/Hiking Trail, which is a section of the Blufflands State Trail and is 60 miles long.

Sylvan Park & Riverview Campgrounds

Sylvan Park & Riverview Campgrounds are located within the city of Lanesboro. The campground, managed by the city, is located behind Sylvan Park. Campsites are large, shady and private in a wooded setting. Tent campers have 60 campsites with a picnic table and fire ring, set away from RV campers. There are 43 campsites with electric and water. The campground has restrooms, showers, picnic area and playground. Anglers may appreciate the park's spring-fed trout pond. The campground is approximately 18 miles away from Forestville Mystery Cave State Park in Preston. The park offers tours of the cave, as well as 17 miles of hiking trails, 11 miles of cross-country skiing trails and opportunities to view wildlife.
