The city of Litchfield is located in Meeker County in the south-central regions of Minnesota. With Lake Ripley within the city's limits, outdoor recreational opportunities abound in the area. The lake offers chances to fish, canoe, boat, swim, hike, or sit back and enjoy wildlife. Campers have many choices when it comes to wooded and secluded sites, and some are located directly on the water.

Lake Ripley Campground

Lake Ripley Campground, which is operated by the city of Litchfield, lies on the eastern banks of Lake Ripley. This 3.3-acre park is adjacent to a game refuge and fish management area. The campground offers 22 campsites with water and electric on the shores of the lake and tent campers will be able to find a wooded and private site. There are 11 full hook-up sites, which include water, electric and sewer. The campground has restrooms, showers, a dump station, a picnic area. Anglers, boaters and canoeists can utilize the park's four docks and boat launch, as well as the fish cleaning station. The campground is open April through October. Hikers can hike the four miles around Lake Ripley. Anderson Gardens, a mini arboretum on the opposite side of the lake, offers various nature trails through the gardens.

Lakedale Campground

Lakedale Campground is located approximately 10 miles east of Litchfield in the city of Dassel. Situated on Lake Long, the campground offers fine opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming and canoeing. The campground's 45 campsites have water, electric, fire rings and a picnic tables. Tent campers have many choices for wooded and private campsites located away from the RVs. The campground has restrooms, hot showers, a dump station and a picnic area, and it accepts pets. There is a boat ramp and dock within the campground for fishing in Lake Long. Two miles away is Sportsman's Park. The park is located on Washington Lake, which offers opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming and viewing wildlife.

Collinwood Regional Park & Campground

Located in Cokato approximately 20 miles away from Litchfield is the Collinwood Regional Park & Campground, which is operated by the county. This 308-acre park is located on Collinwood Lake and Chelgren Lake and has 49 campsites offering water, electric, fire rings and picnic tables. Nine tent sites are separate from the RV sites and are lakefront, wooded and private. There is a group camping area also. The campground has restrooms, showers and a picnic area. Anglers, boaters and canoeists can utilize the park's boat launch and fishing pier into Collinwood Lake, and can swim in it. Hikers and skiers can utilize the park's five miles of trails, some of which wind around Chelgren Lake. The campground is approximately six miles from Wildlife County Park where there is a canoe access to the river, as well as two canoe campsites.
