Fairmont is located in southwest Minnesota near the Iowa state line. Surrounded by five lakes, four of which are connected by a channel, Fairmont is a prime fishing and boating area. Anglers, canoeists, and boaters visiting the region will find many ways to enjoy the surrounding waters. The area also offers several trails for hikers and wildlife enthusiasts to enjoy. Campers will find many campsites on the water as well as private and secluded sites.

Flying Goose Campground

The Flying Goose Campground is located approximately five miles east of Fairmont. Situated along the banks of the one-mile long Lake Imogene, the campground offers opportunities for fishing and boating. Campsites are large and wooded, and tent campers can find private sites away from RVs. There are 10 beachfront sites with water and electric, six lakefront sites with water and electric, 40 sites to accommodate RVs, as well as primitive tent sites with no amenities. Sites have a picnic table and fire ring. The campground has restrooms, showers, an 18-hole mini golf course, a laundry facility, a dump station and a camping store. Boaters can utilize the campground’s boat launch or rent a canoe, kayak or pontoon and explore the lake. Approximately six miles away is Amber Lake Park, offering opportunities for fishing and canoeing with a nature trail around the lake.

Dawson’s Lakeside Campground

Dawson’s Lakeside Campground is approximately four miles from Fairmont and offers campers a wooded, rural setting in which to camp. The campground is located on Bud Lake and is adjacent to South Silver Lake. There are 140 campsites available with water and electric, and some have cable TV. Tent campers will be able to find a wooded and secluded campsite in this large campground. Campers have access to restrooms, showers, a laundry facility, a pool, a dump station, a swimming beach and a camping store at the campground. Canoeists, boaters and anglers can utilize the boat ramp to launch into the lake. The campground is approximately six miles from Gomsrud Park which is located on Hall Lake, offering more opportunities for boating, fishing and swimming.

Checkers Welcome Campground

Approximately nine miles west of Fairmont in the city of Welcome is Checkers Welcome Campground. The campground is in a rural setting with trees throughout and offers large, shady campsites. Tent campers have six campsites situated away from RVs that include a picnic table, fire ring and water. There are 29 sites with electric and water. The park has a convenience store, a playground, restrooms, showers, a playground and a dump station. Cedar Creek Park in Fairmont is approximately 10 miles away. The area offers canoeing and fishing opportunities as well as a two-mile paved hiking/biking trail and three miles of nature trails. Cedar Creek runs through the park next to Amber Lake.
