Tallahassee gives a visitor convenient access to examples of all of Florida's outdoor attractions. The city is about 30 miles north of Apalachee Bay and several Gulf of Mexico beaches. Apalachicola National Forest is to the southeast, and to the east and north of the city are several substantial lakes. For the RV traveler, a selection of RV parks exist within city limits.

Tallahassee RV Park

All of the sites at this lightly wooded RV park have full hookups (up to 50-amp electricity), as well as cable TV and telephone connections. Tallahassee RV Park facilities include a swimming pool, book exchange, recreation room and shower house. The park, which located in northeast Tallahassee, allows pets, but requires that dogs be leashed. Big, aggressive breeds, like rottweilers and pit bulls, are not allowed. Located in northeast Tallahassee, the park is less than two miles from the J.R. Alford Greenway, a park with more than 800 acres that are home to trails for bikers and hikers and open spaces that draws horseback riders.

Big Oak RV Park

Big Oak RV Park offers tree-filled (oaks, of course) pull-through sites with full hookups (up to 50 amps). The park also offers free cable TV and Wi-Fi access at its sites. The campground's other amenities include a shower house, coin laundry and park post office. Pets are welcome. Big Oak RV Park is situated in northwest Tallahassee and is surrounded by opportunities for boating, fishing, hiking and nature watching. To the east is Lake Jackson and the Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological Park. To the west is the northern part of the Talquin Wildlife Management Area. and sites of historical significance.

Lakeside RV Park

Lakeside RV Park has 60 sites, including 22 pull-throughs, and a pond. All sites come equipped with full hookups (30- and 50-amp electricity). The camping facilities include a shower house, picnic area and coin laundry as well as free Wi-Fi access. Fishing and canoeing are possible on the park's pond. The park accepts pets, but dogs must be kept on a leash. Lakeside RV Park is located on the outskirts of Tallahassee, with the Talquin Wildlife Management Area, Lake Talquin and Lake Talquin State Park less than five miles to the west.
