Rockport, Texas is a mid-size community located on the Texas Gulf Shores. Visitors to the Rockport region can surf, scuba-dive, snorkel, sea-kayak, bird-watch, hike, beach-comb and fish along the coastal waters. Sea-kayakers can keep a keen eye out for dolphins and an occasional manatee off the shore. Bird-watchers can try to spot the many species of sea-bird that frequent the area, as well as the migratory birds that make seasonal homes along the Gulf Coast. There are several options for campgrounds around Rockport for the camping visitor.

Goose Island State Park

Visitors to the Rockport region can opt to camp at the Goose Island State Park. There are sites for tent campers and RV travelers. Tent sites are primitive and have picnic tables, fire-rings with grills, and access to fresh water for drinking and cooking. RV sites are either primitive (no hookups) or have partial hookups of water and 30- amp electric. There are toilets and showers available for guest use. Pets are welcome if leashed. Goose Island is part of the Texas State Park "Loan A Tackle Program" where fishing gear is loaned to visitors for no additional fee. The endangered whooping crane frequents the region and bird-watchers can try to spot this rare avian.

Hidden Oaks RV Park

Whie the name says RV park, the Hidden Oaks has sites for tent campers as well as those traveling via RV. Tent sites have level areas for pitching tents, fire-pits, and picnic tables. Often times, the tent sites are intermixed with the RV sites. RV sites have 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer connections. There are options for cable TV and Wi-Fi coonections as well. All guests have use of the parks bathrooms, showers, laundry room, guest house, and recreation hall. Pets are welcome if leashed. The Aranasas National Wildlife Refuge is within 20 minute's drive from the Hidden Oaks where visitors can see the last remaining nesting whopping cranes in North America.

Taylor Oaks RV Park

Taylor Oaks RV Park is a smaller RV park and campground in Rockport. Tent campers can be acommodated, sharing the same grounds as RV travelers. Sites are level, with grass, and have fresh water access. RV hookups include 30- or 50-amp electric, sewer, and water. Pets are allowed. All guests may use the showers and bathrooms, as well as the other park amenities. There is a fish cleaning station for anglers who were successful fishing, and those seeking ocean based activity can get to the beaches within minutes from Taylor Oaks. Surfers can enjoy a few early morning waves, and snorkelers and scuba divers may get lucky and find themselves swimming with wild dolphins off the coast.
