Campgrounds near Homestead, Florida

Campgrounds near Homestead, Florida
Homestead, Tennessee is a little community just east of Cumberland Mountain State Park. As such a location might imply, the surrounding area is a rugged mountainous forest, teeming with wildlife and offering opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing. Homestead itself is too small to offer much in the way of campgrounds, but the area around it has a selection of public and private facilities.

Cumberland Mountain State Park

This 1,720-acre, crescent-shaped state park is located less than a mile to the west of Homestead, and has a 147-site campground of mixed RV and tent sites in its northeast corner. The campground is serviced by a bathhouse and a picnic area with tables and barbecue grills. In addition, there is an overnight camping site on one of the camp's several miles of hiking trails.

In addition to hiking, the park offers fishing on its Byrd Lake. Its amenities include a swimming pool, courts of badminton, basketball, horseshoes, playground, softball, tennis and volleyball, and a restaurant that is well-known for its Friday catfish.

Ballyhoo Family Campground

Ballyhoo Family Campground provides a forested, scenic environment with two creeks running through it. The campground is also almost in the middle of the crescent-shaped enclosure of Cumberland Mountain State Park, and is therefore surrounded by plenty of East Tennessee scenery. It is primarily an RV park, but there are a number of sites with no hookups, and are therefore tents-only. The camping facilities include a camp store with propane sales, bait and RV supplies, shower house, and coin laundry. Among the other facilities and features are a swimming pool and kiddie pool, playground, courts for volleyball, shuffleboard and horseshoes, access to a private pond with fishing and boating, miniature golf, and a game room. Other accommodations are available in the form of rental cabins.

Beanpot Campground

Beanpot Campground is a little under 15 miles to the northeast of Homestead, and offers a more convenient spot for those campers driving in from I-40. Like Ballyhoo, it is an RV park for the most part, but it does offer a lane of tent-only camp sites. It is a wooded, shady campground, and even the tent-camping sites have water and electrical service. The camping facilities include a shower house, camp store with firewood and propane sales, and coin laundry. It has a clubhouse with TV room and book exchange, and the other amenities include free coffee, a playground, swimming pool, Wi-Fi access throughout the campground, and courts for basketball and horseshoes.
