If you are traveling through southwest Michigan, or wish to stay and vacation there for a while, then Decatur is a great place to slow down and relax. There are many excellent campgrounds and RV resorts to choose from, which are all within a close distance to the quiet downtown of Decatur as well as many activities, including Red Woolfe Park Beach, golfing, antique shopping, and a local you-pick farm. It is just a half hour from Kalamazoo.

Timber Trails RV Park

Open May 1 thru September 30, this peaceful, family campground offers 162 full hookup sites with 30/50 amp service as well as 16 pull thru sites for bigger vehicles. At Timber Trails, campers enjoy hot showers, a place to do laundry, and there is also a dump station. Guests may enjoy boating, swimming, or relaxing on the sandy beach, horseshoes, volleyball, shuffle board, fishing, and camp fires. Firewood is provided at the campground. If you are staying a few days and wish to venture from your camp during the day there are plenty of activities within a 40-mile radius, including canoeing, golfing, shopping, local flea market, a go-cart park, fruit picking, an Amish town, and sand dunes. Wi-Fi is also now available at this campground. Pets are allowed only at eight designated sites and must be leashed. Daily and seasonal rates are available.

Oak Shores Campground

Just 80 miles from Grand Rapids and 160 miles from Detroit, Oak Shores Campground offers 248 campsites on the edge of Lake Knickerbocker. There are options ranging for those who wish to pitch a tent to those who wish to pull up their Class-A recreational vehicles. There are 30 and 50 amp sites depending on your needs, and some are individually equipped with a sewer hookup and concrete patio. The campground has several playgrounds, a swimming pool, hot whirlpool for adults, tennis court, shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball court, basketball court, game room, picnic pavilion, community center and offers boat rentals. Oak Shores also holds certain events throughout the years, such as Christmas in July, a Hawaiian luau, the Strawberry Festival, and Halloween Spooktaculars, and weekly events such as pancake breakfasts. They do not take online reservations.

Leisure Valley RV Resort and Campground

Nature is sure to be a large part of your stay at Leisure Valley. Unlike many campgrounds that packed with as many sites as possible, this one has 106 sites on 71 acres. There are rural tent sites, water and electric sites, as well as full hookup sites to accommodate a range of campers. There is a bath house and laundromat. Campers may enjoy the basketball courts, volleyball, fishing, a swimming pool, a playground, hiking on the nature trails, bird watching or gatherings at the modern club house. Boating, shuffleboard and miniature golf are also available for a fee. This campground is open from April 15 to October 15 and rates are based on four occupants per site.
