McGregor, Minnesota is located in Aitkin County in the east-central region of the state. Visitors to the area will find miles of hiking, biking, and cross-country ski trails, as well as boating and fishing opportunities. Campers will have no problem finding shady and private campsites.

Savanna Portage State Park

Located in the Savanna State Forest approximately 11 miles from McGregor is the 15,818-acre Savanna Portage State Park. The park offers 10-miles of mountain biking, 32-miles of hiking and 20-miles of cross-country ski trails throughout the area's hills and bogs. There are 18 electric sites and 43 non-electric sites. There is a private, wooded area situated away from RV's for tent campers. The park offers vault toilets throughout and a bathhouse. The park offers canoe and kayak rentals for those wanting to paddle the numerous lakes throughout the park. Anglers can fish for trout and bass and there is swimming allowed in Lake Loon. The park is close to various hiking trails situated throughout the state forest.

Sandy Lake Campground

Sandy Lake Campground is located approximately 13 miles north of McGregor. The campground is situated on Big Sandy Lake, with the Sandy River also flowing though it. The park offers 43 electric sites, eight walk-in tent sites and two group camping sites. Tent sites are private and away from RV's, with some electric sites also secluded. Some campsites have a water view. The park has a bathhouse, dump station, museum, playground, swimming and laundry facility. Boaters and anglers will appreciate the two boat ramps leading into the lake and one boat ramp leading into the River. Sandy Lake offers some of the best bass fishing in the state. The canoe route in the park links up with the Mississippi State Canoe Route. Hikers can utilize the park's hiking trail. Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge is located approximately 18 miles south, offering 15 miles of hiking trails and bird watching opportunities.

Aitkin Lakeside Resort & Campground

Aitkin Lakeside Resort & Campground is located approximately 14 miles north of McGregor, situated on the shores of Aitkin Lake. The heavily forested resort has 14 RV sites with water and electric. The campground offers 24 tent sites, situated away from the RV campground, that offer water and electric. Sites are shady, private and have a view of the lake. The park has a bathhouse, picnic tables and a nature trail. The campground rents canoes and motor boats for those wanting to fish or explore Aitkin Lake, which connects into Big Sandy Lake. There is a boat ramp in the campground. The campground is approximately one mile from the Savanna State Forest, offering 15 miles of hiking trails and opportunities to view the area's vast wildlife population.
