Dallas is not typically thought of as a top destination for outdoor recreation travel. However, you'll find numerous opportunities within the greater Dallas area. Plano, Texas, is the boyhood home of Lance Armstrong and provides miles of roads for cyclists. Bachman and White Rock Lakes offer canoeing, fishing, kayak-touring, swimming and bird watching. Trails surround White Rock Lake for hiking and mountain biking. There are several RV parks and campgrounds in the greater Dallas area.

Hidden Acres RV Park

With 24 back-in or pull-through sites, Hidden Acres accommodates most RV sizes. Water, sewer, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and 30- or 50-amp electric are available. This RV park also provides bathrooms and showers, a laundry room, a guest house, a stocked fishing pond, and playgrounds. Pets are allowed if leashed. There is also a boat launch and boat rentals on the grounds.

Dallas/Arlington KOA

The Dallas/Arlington KOA, midway between Dallas and Forth Worth, can handle RVs of all sizes as there are pull-through sites for lengths up to 100 feet. Hookups include 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer. Cable TV and Wi-Fi are also available. Pets are allowed if leashed, and there is a dog area for off-leash play. This KOA includes showers and bathrooms, a laundry room and guest house. AAA and Good Sam discounts are offered to club members. The River Legacy Living Science Center is within a 30-minute drive where visitors can learn of the regions ecology, flora and fauna.

Dallas Hi Ho RV Park

The Hi Ho RV Park is big-rig-friendly and all sites have shade trees. Hookups include water, sewer, cable TV and 30- or 50-amp electric. The park also provides Wi-Fi, a dump station, showers and bathrooms. Pets are welcome. Nearby White Rock Lake offers sailing, kayaking, canoeing and swimming. Anglers can try for bass, bluegill and crappie at White Rock Lake.
