Gainesville is a popular town in Georgia that attracts visitors because of its numerous lakes and rivers. Located next to Lake Sidney Lanier, the town attracts visitors interested in boating, fishing or hiking around the beautiful lake. And for those that enjoy whitewater rafting, the Chattooga River is just an hour away. Because of its numerous outdoor activities, you will find a range of excellent campgrounds to choose from in this small Georgia town.

Duckett Mill Lake Sidney Lanier

The Duckett Mill Campgrounds are located along beautiful Lake Sidney Lanier in Gainesville. The campgrounds have a total of 111 sites. Of the 111 sites, 97 have water and 30-amp electricity, and the remaining 14 sites have no hookups. In addition, the campgrounds have nine pull-throughs, a station and laundry facilities. There is also a small convenience store on site, and grills also are available at the sites. There is a boat ramp nearby for those that want to do some boating or paddling on Lake Sidney Lanier. Swimming is allowed at the lake and fishing is also available. Duckett Mill is open from April 28 until Sept. 9.

Old Federal Road Park Lake Sidney Lanier

The Old Federal Road Park is another campgrounds located on Gainesveille's Lake Sidney Lanier. The park has 83 sites in total. Fifty-nine sites have water and electricity at 30 amps, and the remaining 24 sites have no hookups. Other facilities include 10 pull-throughs, a dump station, laundry facilities and a small convenience store. In addition to the water-based activities around Lake Sidney Lanier, the park has 692 miles of shoreline making it the perfect location for hiking. The Old Federal Road Park is open from March 29 until Oct. 8. No reservations are required at this campground.

River Forks Park & Campground

River Forks Park & Campgrounds is located next to River Forks Park in Gainesville. The campgrounds have 63 sites in total, all of which have water and electricity. Electrical hookups are available in 30 and 50 amps. In addition there are eight pull-throughs, a dump station and grills available. The River Forks Park and Campground is open from March 1 until Dec. 31. Pets are welcome at the park so long as they are kept on a leash. Among the many activities available close to River Forks Campground is hiking along the Brookshire Creek trail and exploring the park's 40,000-square-foot beach. Lake fishing is also available at River Forks Park.
