It is bordered to the east and west by Fremont National Forest and is a short drive from Modoc National Forest, which is just across the California state line to the southwest. There are many recreational opportunities in the area including hiking, mountain biking, fishing and skiing.

Junipers Reservoir RV Resort is located just outside of Lakeview on a large cattle ranch. On-site amenities include laundry facilities, bathrooms, dump station and a picnic area with pavilion and grills. Recreational activities include horseshoes, volleyball and fishing. Sites come equipped with water and 20- or 30-amp electric hookups. Some sites also include 50-amp connections or sewer hook ups. Pets and tent campers are also welcome. Tents can be set up on an RV site or in the grassy meadow.

Hunter's RV Park in Lakeview, Oregon is located north of town. Sites include full hook ups, cable TV and electrical connections up to 50 amps. Some pull-through sites are available, and pets are allowed as long as they are kept on a leash. Summer Lake Hot Springs is just north of Lakeview in Paisley, Oregon, near the hot mineral springs. On-site features include laundry facilities and showers. Activities at the resort include swimming in the indoor and outdoor pools, walking trails, soaking in the mineral springs and fishing. Sites include full hookups with electrical connections ranging from 20 to 50 amps. There are a few pull-through sites. Tent camping is also welcome with sites including picnic tables and firepits. Cabins and lodges are also offered.
