Picacho Peak is the name of a prominent peak that juts 1,500 feet up from the Sonoran desert in Arizona. It is a popular spot for hikers, particularly because of its extraordinary wildlife and plant life. For instance, Picacho Peak is one of the few places in the country where you can see the saguaro cactus. If you are traveling by RV, you will find three different parks that are located close to Picacho Peak.

Picacho Campground

Picacho Campground is located just off Picacho Boulevard, close to Picacho Peak State Park. The campground has 79 sites, some of which are set up for extended stays. Forty-five sites have full hookups, and the remaining 34 have just water and electricity. At Picacho Campgrounds, electricity is available at 20/30/50 amps. Other facilities include a dump station, propane gas, laundry facilities and a grocery store. Pets are welcome at Picacho Campgrounds, and the park is open year-round. Big rigs are also welcome there. Recreational facilities include a rec room, swimming pool and shuffleboard court. In addition, there are numerous hiking trail around the area including a nature trail.

Picacho Peak RV Resort

The Picacho Peak RV Resort is located at the base of Picacho Peak. It is a campground open year-round that caters to those aged 55 and above. The RV park has 312 sites, all with full hookups and some that are even set up for extended stays. Electricity is available at 20/30/50 amps. In addition, the park has 77 pull-throughs, Internet access, propane gas and laundry facilities. Pets are welcome at the RV park, but there are breed restrictions in place and generally only two pets per site are allowed. Other amenities at the park include a swimming pool, jacuzzi and an exercise room. In addition, there are numerous excellent trails nearby for those that enjoy hiking.

Picacho Peak State Park

Picacho Peak State Park has a campground with 85 sites. Of the 85 sites, 62 sites have electric hookups with 20/30/50 amps. The campground has a dump station as well as picnic tables and barbecue grills. The park is open year-round and pets are welcome. Visitors should be aware, however, that there is a maximum stay allowed of just 15 days. There are numerous hiking trails around the campgrounds including the sunset vista trail, which is 3 miles long and goes all the way up to the peak. On your hike, keep an eye out for animals such as the Western banded gecko or the peregrine falcon.
