"I woke up this mornin'-uh ... had them Statesboro Blues," the Allman Brothers famously sang in their cover of Blind Willie McTell's song, which McTell said was inspired by the town of Statesboro in southeast Georgia. Statesboro is the home of Georgia Southern University. It offers kayaking and canoeing on the Ogeechee River and hiking at Little Ocmulgee State Park and also at Skidaway Island in nearby Savannah. Statesboro has one RV park in town, plus several more within a 30-mile radius for those who don't want to tent camp.

Parkwood RV Park and Cottages

Parkwood RV Park and Cottages has 50 large pull-through sites that can accommodate rigs up to 30 feet wide and 100 feet long. Full hookups with 50- amp electric, water, sewer, cable TV with free HDTV, and phone are provided. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the facility. Most of the sites also have shade trees. A swimming pool is available to guests, as are showers, bathrooms, and laundry facilities. Pets are allowed. Parkwood is open year-round.

George L. Smith State Park

George L. Smith State Park offers waterfront access with boating, fishing and canoeing on the mill pond where the refurbished Parrish Mill, an old saw mill/covered bridge first built in 1880, is located. The park also has seven miles of hiking trails. It's small, with 25 tree-shaded RV sites with hookups for 50-amp electric and water; there are no sewer hookups, no Wi-Fi and no cable TV. Each site has a barbecue grill and picnic table. Showers, laundry facilities and bathrooms are available. Pets are allowed.

Brookwood RV Resort Park at Parrishah Lake

Brookwood RV Resort Park at Parrish Lake, also called Beaver Run RV Park, is located in Metter, 16 miles west of Statesboro, and has waterfront access on Parrish Lake, with 62 pull-through sites, all under shade trees. Full hookups with 50-amp electric, water and sewer are available. The facility has free Wi-Fi, but its range can be spotty, and the shade trees make receiving satellite TV difficult. Showers and bathrooms are available, as is LP gas, and there is a dump station. Pets are allowed.
