Aside from being the site of one of the most infamous battles in American history, Gettysburg also offers visitors outdoor recreation opportunities with plenty of hiking, biking, boating and fishing in and around the region. Codorus State Park, 20 miles from town, has over 3,000 acres of land to explore, including Lake Marburg with 26 miles of shoreline and the chance to angle for yellow perch, largemouth bass and catfish. Several RV parks are within the Gettysburg city limits.

Gettysburg Campground

The Gettysburg Campground is a family-friendly park that Woodall's has rated five stars for recreation and four stars for their facilities. This park has 260 RV sites, all with picnic tables, fire rings and 30- and 50-amp electrical service options. Pull-through sites are available for larger rigs. Camp amenities include a swimming pool, mini-golf course, playground, volleyball court, softball field, game room and a country store that sells groceries and RV supplies. Other facilities include laundry, a dump station and on-site pump service. Organized activities include tours of the surrounding area and hayrides.

Gettysburg Battlefield KOA

This park won Kampground of the Year in 2003 from Kampgrounds of America (KOA). Camp activities include miniature golf, nightly movies depicting the history of the area, living history camps, ghost walks, wine tasting, pancake breakfasts and life-size games. The campground offers a kitchen for guest use, and shuffleboard and horseshoe pits. Sites are equipped with 30- and 50-amp electric service and can accommodate rigs up to 85 feet in length. Buses to the surrounding area leave daily.

Gettysburg Battlefield Resort

The Battlefield Resort offers 215 sites for vehicles with a maximum length of 40 feet and 20-, 30- and 50-amp electrical service. Park amenities include a general store, café and creamery, volleyball and basketball courts, a stocked fishing pond, nature trails, a historic farm lodge and an Olympic-size swimming pool. Living history camps and Civil War reenactments take place on weekends. RV storage and a dump station are on-site. Pets are welcome and two dog runs are located on the park grounds.
