Campgrounds in Dunnellon, Florida
The small town of Dunnellon in southwestern Marion County, Florida, offers forests, rivers, and hiking trails to compete with the natural attractions of nearby Ocala and Crystal River. Campsites around Dunnellon allow extended stays to view the black bears, bald eagles, and hooded pitcher plants of Goethe State Forest, to float on the crystal waters of the Rainbow River, or to hike the Florida Trail.

Goethe Trailhead Ranch

Goethe Trailhead Ranch provides tent, RV, and equestrian camping along with trail access to Goethe State Forest. Three trails in the 53,000 acre Goethe State Forest are included in the Florida State Forests Trailwalker Program. Combined with the four trails that are part of the equestrian Trailtrotter Program, this forest provides ample cause for campers to explore the wildlife and ecosystems of this forest by foot, bike, or horseback. The ranch offers campers and their horses water, electricity, wireless Internet, stalls, pasture, and a feed store.

Rainbow Springs State Park

Tubing on the cool, clear waters of Rainbow River on a warm Florida day attracts regular visitors from throughout the state to Rainbow Springs State Park. Tube rentals are available, and a number of area vendors provide shuttle service to launch and exit points along the river. Campsites in the park can accommodate tent or RV campers with water, electric and sewer hookups. Canoe rentals give anglers a chance to fish for large-mouth bass on the river. The campground also offers a swimming area, picnic areas, and hiking trail.

Ross Prairie Campground

The Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway provides outdoorspeople with a 110-mile path stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to the St. Johns River. Several campsites are available near the Greenway, including Ross Prairie Campground near Dunnellon. Located at a trailhead on Highway 200, this campground features campsites able to accommodate a variety of camping styles including RV. This area serves as a trailhead for the Florida National Scenic Trail, and approximately six miles of equestrian trails make it a popular place for equestrian camping. Water, electricity, and restrooms with showers are available.
