In southeast Tennessee in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the scenic town of Cosby. Besides spectacular mountain vistas, outdoor recreational activities are plentiful in the area. Whether you want to camp, hike, mountain bike, view nature, or just sit back and take in the view, the Cosby area offers no shortage of outdoor opportunities. Campers will delight in the various wooded campgrounds throughout the area.

Jellystone Park Camp Resort

Outside Cosby on the outskirts of Great Smoky Mountains National Park is Jellystone Park Camp Resort. The campground offers guests a heavily wooded facility adjacent to the national park. Campers can select wooded or stream-side sites, with 72 sites offered and 36 full hook-ups, which include water, electricity, sewer, and cable TV. Maximum length for RVs is 45 feet and some sites accommodate pull-throughs. There is a tent and primitive camping area. The park offers free wireless Internet, pool, mini golf, recreation area, picnic area, pavilions, playground, and dump station. Creeks and streams run through the park and the Maddron Bald/Albright Trailhead is located adjacent to the campground. Hiking, mountain biking and nature viewing opportunities are abundant in the surrounding Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Cosby Campground

Cosby Campground, operated by the National Forest Service, is part of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The park is five miles south of Cosby. This underused park offers 57 sites that include a picnic table, fire ring and grill, with potable water by the restroom facility. Some sites will accommodate large rigs. The campground is open March through October and has a picnic area and public phones. The area offers hikers and wildlife enthusiasts many trails that meander through the forest, with creeks and streams nearby. The Pigeon River is approximately five miles from the campground, offering whitewater rafting opportunities. Whitewater outfitters are in the town of Cosby.

Fox Den Campground

The Fox Den Campground is in a heavily wooded area in the foothills of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Cosby Creek runs through the property. The campground has large, wooded campsites that offer full hook-up and partial hook-ups. Some sites will accommodate the largest RV, with pull-throughs. There is a separate area for tent campers. The facility also has a rental RV for on-site use. The campground has a catch-and-release fishing pond, pool, laundry facility, basketball court, showers, restrooms, and gift shop. There is an on-site bird aviary for visitors to enjoy and hiking trails within the area. Outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the close proximity of the national park where opportunities to hike, fish, mountain bike, or view nature are plentiful.
