Campgrounds in Pensacola, Florida

Campgrounds in Pensacola, Florida
Pensacola, in Florida's northwest panhandle, is a city known mostly for 52 miles of beaches, yet plenty of outdoor adventure opportunities abound here as well. Pensacola has, on average, 343 days of sunshine a year, and is easily accessible by air or by car on Interstate 10 and Interstate 65.

Gulf Islands National Seashore

In the Florida District of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, the Fort Pickens Campground sits on a pristine stretch of seashore between the Gulf of Mexico and Pensacola Bay. Primitive camping sites are available on a first come, first serve basis. Campsite fees also include admission to the historic Fort Pickens. Originally completed in 1834 to defend the Pensacola Bay, the fort was used until the 1940s. Gulf Islands National Seashore is National Watchable Wildlife Area, named for the abundance of animal life on the seashore. The park is home to 12 threatened or endangered species, including the Perdido Key Beach Mouse. Gulf Islands National Seashore is also a great place for bird watching.
