Captiva Island, Florida Oceanfront Resorts

Captiva Island, Florida Oceanfront Resorts
Captiva Island's location in southwest Florida, right on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico, makes it a good area for water sports of all types: sailing, fishing, boating, kayaking, and swimming. There also are many opportunities to commune with nature: shelling at the water's edge, watching the sea birds and checking out the nearby wildlife refuge. Here are some Captiva resorts to consider for your stay.

South Seas Island Resort

Located on the northern end of Captiva Island, the South Seas Island Resort is a 330-acre resort on the Gulf of Mexico, more than half of which has been preserved in its natural state. "Parents" magazine recently ranked the resort No. 3 in its list of "Best Beach Resorts for Families," noting the recent $140 million renovation of the property. Resort amenities include 11 pools and two hot tubs, rentals of sailboats, hydro bikes, sea kayaks, jet skis, fishing poles and bicycles. There are 19 day and night tennis courts available, a 9-hole, par-27 golf course, fishing charters and trolley service to take you around the property and to nearby stores and restaurants. Just as there is a wide range of accommodations, the rates range from $206 per night to just over $900 per night in 2010.
