You can find plenty of opportunities to commune with nature less than 90 minutes from Chicago in any direction. When it comes to RV camping, camp sites near Chicago offer the chance of being close to the city and its many attractions without the high prices you would pay at local hotels. Whether you own or rent an RV, Chicago and its surroundings are more than welcoming.

Chicago Northwest KOA

This is the closest KOA campground to Chicago, just about 45 minutes away. A full-service park and camp site, the Chicago Northwest KOA offers a series of amenities, including complimentary Wi-Fi, shaded pull-throughs and an enclosed enclosed pavilion/theater that can be rented for private parties and reunions. There are full hook-ups available, as well as 30-amp and 50-amp water and electric hook- ups. A swimming pool and hay rides make this a welcoming space for families. Well-behaved dogs are welcome for no extra fee, and you must use a leash no longer than six feet when stepping outside of your RV.

Troll Hollow Campground

Located about 90 minutes west of Chicago, Troll Hollow Campground is a favorite among those who want to be near the area's many attractions. Just a few minutes outside the campground, you can find Matthiessen State Park, LaSalle Speedway (for stock car racing), public golf courses, canoe rental and hiking opportunities. Located in a wooded lot away from the city, the campground offers full hook-ups for RVs, BBQ pits, a playground, hiking trails, a garden with gazebo and benches and even golf carts that can be rented to move around the camp site.

Green Fields Campground

This RV camp site is located near Chicagoland Speedway, about one hour from the city of Chicago. Thirty-amp electric hook-up sites are available, but there's no water connection. For those who can't do without, permanent shower facilities are available on site, and you can fill your tanks for free from designated locations within the camp site. While the campground is especially active around the time a race is happening, off-season sites can be rented as well. There is no shade here, and sites are on an open field, with no clear divisions between each other.
