St. Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA

Two miles from the Gulf of Mexico beaches, St. Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA sits on the Long Bayou inland waterway and has over 400 sites with 20-, 30- or 50-amp full hookups. It has pull-thru sites capable of accommodating large RVs up to 60 feet in length. It features restrooms with showers, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, a swimming pool and three hot tubs. There are bike and canoe rentals, a fishing dock, eight shuffleboard courts, volleyball and a miniature golf course. The park is adjacent to the 47-mile Pinellas County Fitness Trail for bikers, walkers and runners.

Fort De Soto Park

Fort DeSoto Park is 11 miles from downtown St. Petersburg and part of the Pinellas County Park system. In 2009, it was named America's Top Beach for the second consecutive year by TripAdvisor.com. The park has 1,136 acres, with five interconnected islands and a 12-inch mortar battery, which was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. There are over 7 miles of waterfront, including nearly 3 miles of white sand beaches, an 800-foot boat launch and two fishing piers. It features 238 campsites with 30- or 50-amp hookups and water. There are restrooms with showers, laundry facilities and a dump station. The park has a 6.8-mile paved trail for hiking, biking or running, a 2.25-mile recreational canoe or kayak trail, nature trails and a dog park. Annual park attendance averages more than 2.7 million visitors, as of December 2009, and campground reservations are strongly recommended.
