Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

Located just a few minutes north of Okeechobee is the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park, with more than 100 miles of hiking, biking, horseback riding and sightseeing opportunities. There are also some buggy tours that are led by park rangers, as well as camping sites where you can rent cabins as well as campsites, fishing areas, bird watching locations and more. The preserve is the home of many species of birds like the sandhill crane, crested caracara, the grasshopper sparrow and wildlife like wild tail deer, alligators, wild turkeys and other animals.

Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail

Enjoy the scenery and wildlife around the Lake Okeechobee Scenic Trail, just south of Okeechobee as you hike the more than 110 miles of pathways surrounding the lake. The Scenic Trails provide opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, sightseeing and more as you explore the landscape and vegetation that grows in the area. The Scenic Trails include traveling through six different counties and will take you through several cities like Okeechobee, Moore Haven, Belle Glade and more. The trails are free of charge and the lake itself is the next largest freshwater lake in the United States, second only to Lake Tahoe on the California/Nevada border. It includes a variety of wildlife, like egrets, herons, cranes and other animals.

Inner Coastal & Lake Okeechobee Eco Tours

Take a tour of Lake Okeechobee on an airboat when you tour with Inner Coastal and Lake Okeechobee Eco Tours. The tours are given by professional and knowledgeable tour guides, who will provide you information on its history and the popular features of the lake as your travel across the waters. They will also point out the native animals of the lake, such as manatees, dolphins, a variety of birds and other wildlife.
