Historic Pubs in Wexford, Ireland

Historic Pubs in Wexford, Ireland
Located between the Wicklow Mountains to the north and the gentle rise of County Cork to the west, Wexford is a great stop for hikers exploring the countryside. Home to the internationally acclaimed Opera Festival, County Wexford is a popular destination for the outdoor adventure traveler--and for anyone seeking a pint of the "black stuff."

The Wren's Nest

Once known as the smallest pub in Wexford, The Wren's Nest now thrives as a leading social landmark in town. With an idyllic view of Wexford Bay and a consistent number of Celtic "trad sessions" involving traditional instruments of all varieties, the Wren is a common meeting point for tourists and locals alike. Boasting a stone fireplace, food ceilings, slate floors and all the other amenities of a traditional Irish pub, The Wren's Nest is distinguished for its hospitality, wide tap selection and its affordable homemade food.

The Ferryman

Known traditionally as "the pub on Monck Street," the Ferryman offers daily home-cooked Irish dishes for around 10 euros a plate, or $14.00. Traditional pints of Guinness can be found, as in all pubs, in addition to taps bearing the names of Beamish, Harp and Smithwick's. A community favorite due to the consistent presence of musicians and other bar entertainment, it's easy to see why the Ferryman has always had a mention in guidebooks of the Irish coast.

The Mill Court

Kennedy Park has concealed this Old World pub for centuries, with a warmth and due one of the oldest pubs in Wexford. Catering to both the old and young, The Mill Court specializes in tap brews, along with various brands of Irish whiskey available for tavern goers at the usual shot price of 4 euros. Somewhat overlooked by the recent tourist attention given to County Wexford, the Mill Court has stayed afloat by the strength of its locals and regulars alone, making it one of the best cultural studies in town.
