There are plenty of attractions for outdoor enthusiasts in Carolina Beach, N.C. Carolina Beach is considered part of Pleasure Island and is mere minutes from Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach. The easy access to the beach and temperate climate makes it the ideal destination for outdoor activities. Many locations close for the winter, so check all attractions before traveling to Carolina Beach.

Boardwalk Amusement Park

The Carolina Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park underwent an extensive makeover in 2008. The boardwalk is open year-round for walking, and people can be seen jogging or doing yoga on the boardwalk. The amusement rides are open during the summer months, with the tickets priced for the 2009 season at $1.50 each and an all-day pass available at $25. The boardwalk also has several restaurants and a place where you can rent many items to enjoy the outdoors such as surfboards, boogie boards, bicycles, surreys or even chairs and an umbrella.

Carolina Beach State Park

Only here in North Carolina can you spy the Venus flytrap, a carnivorous plant. The park has hiking, walking and biking trails, a marina with fishing available, birdwatching opportunities and camping spots. The park has different hours throughout the year, with the park opening at 8 a.m. and closing at between 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The current hours will be posted as you enter the park. The park is closed Christmas Day.

Fort Fisher State Recreation Area

Located next door to Carolina Beach in Kure Beach, Fort Fisher was a Confederate fort during the Civil War. Today, people can tour the beachfront site. The Fort Fisher State Recreation Area includes the Fort Fisher State Historic Site and the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Trail marker displays allow visitors to take a tour around the fort's reconstructed areas, which includes a restored 32-pound seacoast cannon at the Sheperd's Battery. The aquarium is open year-round.

Carolina Beach Fishing Pier

The Carolina Beach Fishing Pier features a tackle shop where visitors can rent fishing rods and buy bait. The employees can direct you to one of the many charter rentals in the area.
