Millbrook, New York, offers a variety of activities for visitors. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy visiting the area's beautiful gardens and nature reserves, where they can find a variety of plants and trees as well as area wildlife. The area also offers a variety of historical sites and wineries for guests to enjoy.

Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies

The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies spans 1,924 acres of land that has been dedicated to scientific research. A portion of the land is open to visitors for hiking and the observation of plant and animal life. The park features four hiking trails. The Cary Pines trail is 1.3 miles and is made up of meadow areas, making it a wonderful area for bird watching. The Fern Glen area can also be accessed from a split in this trail. In addition to the beautiful plant life in Fern Glen, park visitors often spot dragonflies, frogs and turtles. The Wappinger Creek Trail is 1.25 miles long and offers a stunning forest atmosphere. The EdVenture Trail can be reached from both the Cary Pines and Wappinger Creek trails. The Sedge Meadow Trail can be accessed via the Wappinger Creek Trail. Here, visitors will find sedge-hummock wetlands and red maples. All hiking trails are closed November 1 to March 31.

Innisfree Garden

Innisfree Garden is a Chinese landscaped garden that spans 150 acres. Visitors can stroll through the garden and enjoy the beautiful plants, terraces, streams and waterfalls. The gardens are also home to a 40-acre glacial lake. The park is open May 7 to October 20 with hours Wednesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays. Admission Wednesday through Friday is $4 for visitors 4 years and older. Admission on Saturday, Sunday and legal holidays is $5 for guests 4 years and older. Rates and hours are current as of December 2009 and are subject to change.

Millbrook Vineyards and Winery

Millbrook Vineyards and Winery is located in the beautiful Hudson River Valley. This winery is reputed as one of New York's top wineries as well as one of the area's best attractions. The winery is open for wine tasting and guided tours seven days a week. Hours are 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day and 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. throughout the rest of the year. The winery is closed on Easter, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
