Active Climbing

If you like climbing mountains, then you may enjoy exploring an indoor boulder that is 20 feet high at Active Climbing in Athens. Active Climbing is Northeast Georgia's only indoor rock climbing gym. Even beginners can climb this indoor rock. Also, Active Climbing offers a 40-foot-long roof crossing and roped walls, which are 20 feet high. There is no need to worry too much about falling, as Active Climbing offers plenty of padding to soften your falls.

Sandy Creek Park

Families like to explore the 782 acres of Sandy Creek Park. You can fish in the 260 acres of Lake Chapman for catfish, smallmouth bass, shellcrackers, largemouth bass and bullhead catfish. Sandy Creek Park allows canoes, kayaks and boats, however you must use the appropriate entrance for your recreational vehicle. Sandy Creek Park has several trails. For instance, you may explore Cook's Trail, the Buckeye Horse Trail, the Lakeside Trail and the Swimming Deer Trail. Sandy Creek Park also offers several rental facilities for your use, such as the pavilion, community building, picnic shelters and barbecue shelters.

Antebellum Trail

You will need more than a day to explore the entire 100 miles of the Antebellum Trail, which spans seven cities. Schedule a trip to the Ocmulgee National Monument to explore more than 12,000 years of Native American history. You can view Athens' artifacts in the historical 1856 Ware-Lyndon House museum. Add in a visit to The State Botanical Garden of Georgia to explore native flora gardens, shade gardens, such as redbuds and magnolias, and historical plants.
