How to Renew a Portugal Passport From the States
As an outdoor enthusiast you might find yourself in the United States with the need to renew your passport. The last thing you want to do is return to Portugal solely for this purpose--it will take away from the time you could be spending doing other things like studying or making new travel contacts. The easiest way to renew your passport is by going to any one of the seven Portuguese consulates throughout the United States.

Step 1
Gather the necessary documentation. This includes the original passport as well as a document explaining your reason for traveling abroad. Documentation can be an acceptance letter for a place of work or study.
Step 2
Request an application by phone or mail from a Portuguese consulate. Currently, there are seven consulates located throughout the U.S. The application will be mailed to the address provided.
Step 3
Request an appointment with the consulate office. Take all documentation as well as the completed application. Do not worry about a photo; one will be taken for you during the appointment.
Step 4
Pay the application fees. A Portuguese passport is $91, however, you can order a "rush" application for $150. Rush applications take approximately three business days. The passport will be delivered by mail at the address indicated on the application.
