How to Choose Good Walking Shoes

How to Choose Good Walking Shoes
Finding the right pair of walking shoes can be a frustrating experience. When you walk into a shoe store, you are faced with endless shelves of choices. You must sort through many brands, styles and shapes to find the right walking shoe for you. The best walking shoe for you also depends on the amount of walking you plan to do.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step 1
Go to the shoe store later in the day. You want to try on shoes when your feet are tired and swollen after a long day of walking. This ensures that the shoes you select aren't tighter after you buy them than they are in the store.
Step 2
Try on as many pairs of shoes as possible. Two different brands of the same size shoe can fit your feet differently.
Step 3
Walk all the way around the store in each pair of shoes that you try. The shoes you like while sitting may feel uncomfortable after walking around in them for a while.
Step 4
Select lightweight shoes. The right shoe for you shouldn't feel like they are weighing you down.
Step 5
Choose a shoe that has enough room for your toes. You should have at least a thumbnail's width between your toes and the end of the shoe. Your toes should never be scrunched up against the front of the shoe.
Step 6
Choose a shoe that is tight enough, but not too tight. Choose a shoe that doesn't slide around while walking. Don't select a pair of shoes that squeeze your feet. Your walking shoes should not pinch any part of your foot.
Step 7
After buying your shoes, walk around in them indoors for a day or two. This will allow you to get used to the way your shoes feel as you are walking. It gives you a chance to test your shoes for a comfortable fit. If they aren't as comfortable after a day or two of walking in them as they were in the store, you can return them and select another pair. However, if you wear them outside and change your mind, they may become scuffed. If this happens, you won't be able to get your money back.
