How to Tips for Storing Camping Equipment

How to Tips for Storing Camping EquipmentIt's never pleasant when you go on a camping trip and discover that your tent smells because you put it away when it was wet. You probably want to kick yourself. How long your camping equipment lasts depends on how well you maintain and store it. The cost of equipment can add up, and not storing it properly can cause it to become damaged or shorten its life span. Preparing for a trip is so much easier when you have all your equipment stored in one place. Once you get your equipment organized and properly stored, you'll wonder why you haven't done it all along.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Plastic containers
Step 1
Put all of your equipment together in one place, so you'll know exactly what you have. You'll probably be surprised by the amount of equipment you have. If your tent was put away wet, take it out and set it up. Let it air out before storing it.
Step 2
Buy plastic containers that will hold your equipment. Not only do they hold quite a bit of stuff, but they're also waterproof. You should be able to find them in all sizes at your local department stores. They are relatively inexpensive.
Step 3
Fill one of the containers with your bulkier camping items, things such as your tent, dining tent and chairs. Designate this container for holding your basic camping gear.
Step 4
Put your smaller camping gear, such as your stove, lantern and air mattress, into another plastic container. Once the plastic lid is snapped shut, all the items are protected inside.
Step 5
Store all of your plastic containers together in a safe area. When you need some of your gear, or when you are planning your next camping trip, all of your stuff will be together. The containers will protect your equipment, save time and come in handy as waterproof holding areas while you're camping. These containers will help extend the life of your equipment.
