How to Tie Dental Floss on to Fishing Line

How to Tie Dental Floss on to Fishing Line
Tying dental floss to fishing line involves joining two lines of different diameters. This is a technique commonly used by fly-fishing anglers to tie monofilament leader material to thicker, floating fly line. Fly anglers use the surgeon's knot when they need to tie together two thicknesses of line and you can, too, by following these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:
  • Fishing line
  • Dental floss
  • Scissors, pocketknife or fishing-line clippers
Step 1
Line up the dental floss with the fishing line, holding both ends in one hand.
Step 2
Create a loop with both lines, continuing to hold the ends.
Step 3
Insert the ends of both lines through the loop, over the loop and back through the loop a second time.
Step 4
Pull either side of both ends tightly to form a secure knot.
Step 5
Clip the short ends of both lines about 1/4 inch from the knot.
